The dean of a New York law school says he is "mortified" after fashion brand Diesel used their library for a risque photo shoot.

Brooklyn Law School rented out their library to the label in March last year, expecting they would be making an ad for jeans — not underwear.

Instead the photographs that surfaced this week show men and women in skimpy lingerie in racy poses alongside books and computers.

Michael Gerber, the interim dean of the prestigious school, sent an email to students and staff yesterday addressing the issue.

"We are as shocked and mortified as you must be by these photographs," he wrote, according to the New York Post.

"When the school gave its permission to do the shoot, the school was assured that the photos would be in good taste. They are not."

The photos were recently spotted by students on Diesel's website.

Jordan Hersch, 22, a first-year student, said he thought the photos were "disgusting".

"For a law institution to have people in their underwear where we study and work is unbecoming of a law institution," he said.

A Brooklyn Law spokeswoman said the school's events director was in attendance during the shoot, but it was not clear whether he had complained about the models' antics.

"Our understanding was that they were going to be doing a shoot for jeans, not intimates," the spokeswoman said.

According to the New York Post, Diesel may have breached their contact with the school due to the content of the shoot.

The fashion label has not yet commented on the issue.
