Star goes 'loopy' on The X Factor

Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle has reportedly been rushed to a medical clinic following a breakdown.

Boyle, who yesterday finished second on the reality television show Britain's Got Talent, was taken to the Priory Clinic suffering from exhaustion, The Sun newspaper reports.

The 48-year-old — who is tipped to earn millions from her rise to fame — was taken to the North London hospital voluntarily after workers on the show contacted police when she began acting strangely in her room. (Read more: Boyle looks to the future despite defeat)

A spokeswoman told The Sun Boyle was "exhausted and emotionally drained".

"She has been seen by her private GP, who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery," she said.

"We offer her our ongoing support and wish her a speedy recovery."

It is believed Boyle's behaviour and alleged tantrum-throwing prior to the show's finale had turned many fans off her.

She was named runner-up to a children's dance troupe after being widely tipped to take out the top prize.

Boyle is expected to spend several days at the facility.
