Speaking via her mobile phone to Nine News reporter Ben Fordham, Mrs Voss said she was hopeful she would be rescued.

"I'm trapped under a desk, I can't get out, it's dark, I'm bleeding, and I just don't whats going on out there," Mrs Voss said.

She said she was working at the reception in the office building in central Christchurch when the quake hit.

"It started and I thought I best just get under the desk, then the floor above collapsed onto the desk," she said.

"I just keep knocking and saying help, I just can't get out."

Mrs Voss said she could hear her workmates calling for help but the situation was becoming increasingly desperate.

"We're getting tired, we're getting tired of yelling," she said.

Mrs Voss said she was taking regular calls from her son in Australia along with other family.
