A Manly Sea Eagles cheerleader has become the first Australian to make it onto the world famous Dallas Cowboys cheer squad.

Angela Nicotera, 26, was chosen ahead of thousands of applicants to become one of 36 women on the US team.

Ms Nicotera grew up on Sydney's northern beaches and shook her maroon and white pom poms for the Manly Sea Eagles for nine years before deciding to try out for the Dallas Cowboys.

"Our coach at the Manly Sea Birds for the Sea Eagles, Monique Carroll, she put the idea in my head" Ms Nicotera told TODAY back in May (Watch more: Aussie cheerleader in Dallas).

"They are the elite of cheerleading in the world, I thought, why not have a go at a dream?"

Nicotera had to go through an exhaustive audition process which involves not just dancing and cheering but written tests, essay writing and a "talent presentation," which can be anything from singing to dramatic interpretation.

Cheerleader hopefuls also need to look good in their uniform hotpants.

The Dallas Cowboys tells those who want to try out on their website: "We do not have specific height and weight requirements, however, a lean figure is demanded by our uniform".
