In his final pitch to voters before next week's election, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emphasised his corruption-fighting credentials and ability shield the country from the global recession.

At a giant rally in central Jakarta on Saturday, the popular incumbent said Indonesia needed a proven leader who could deliver more than empty promises.

"A leader who is able to run the government well, delivering real development, not just talk," he told tens of thousands of supporters.

"A leader who can run a clean government, good at eradicating corruption, collusion and nepotism.

"A leader who is able to overcome the global credit crisis, like we have at the moment.

"A leader who is able to improve the image, self-esteem and dignity of our nation in the world."

Without naming names, SBY criticised his rivals - former president Megawati Sukarnoputri and Vice President Jusuf Kalla - for spreading lies and unfounded accusations about him during the campaign.

Most pollsters predict SBY will win big in Wednesday's election.

One recent poll gave him a commanding 67 per cent of the vote. It gave Sukarnoputri 16 per cent and Kalla just 8 per cent.
