A man has narrowly survived after almost shooting himself in the face, when he looked down the barrel of his gun to see why it had jammed.

After firing at cans and bottles lined up near some bushes, the gunman becomes frustrated with his weapon after it stops working.

The shocking footage shows just how close the man came to killing himself when he points the gun to his face as he leans over the barrel.

The rifle fires and recoils slightly, blowing off the man’s cap and sending him stumbling backwards after the blast.

The shooter then crouches over and rubs his head and face, checking for blood.

The person who posted the YouTube video on October 3 wrote: "This should not be your first reaction if a gun doesn't fire when the trigger is pulled."

"This guy violates every rule in the book for handling guns...and lives to tell the tale."

Viewers can see how close the man came to making a fatal error when he shows the large bullet hole left in the beak of his cap at the end of the video.
