A New York fashion student strangled earlier this week hinted about a possible stalker just days before her death.
Carmen Saldana, 23, was found lying dead in bed at her apartment on Sunday.
She was naked except for thin blanket and a jumper that had mostly been pulled off her body.
Police said they believed the Fashion Institute of Technology student was strangled sometime after she left a nearby house party about 1.30am the same morning.
They are yet to identify a suspect but detectives are looking into a message Saldana posted on Facebook three days before her death, the New York Post reports.
"Ain't that a shame," Saldana wrote.
"The guy that does like me I don't like but won't leave me alone and the guy that I do like has no clue I like him lol.
"I think I'll survive lol."
Earlier, police said Saldana appeared to have been strangled in her apartment with bare hands.
"The death was caused by asphyxiation," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.
Bruises were found on Saldana's knees and scattered up the right side of her body, but there were no other signs of a struggle.
It was not clear whether the student had been sexually assaulted.
Police initially thought the killer may have stolen Saldana's mobile phone after it was not found among her possessions, but it later turned up at the house where the party had been.
Saldana's mother, Susana, found her daughter's body after unsuccessful attempts to reach her by phone.
She was distraught as forensics took the body from the apartment, screaming: "Oh, Carmen! Carmen! Carmen! Oh, my God!
Outside the home, the student's father Gilberto Saldana pleaded for police to catch the murderer, saying his daughter "didn't have a problem with anybody".
Carmen Saldana made a snap decision to get married when she was 18 but divorced in 2006.
Her parents did not believe her former husband, 23-year-old police officer Gilberto Quesada, was involved in the death in any way.
