An up-market British department store has been slammed for selling tinned Reindeer pate as a treat for Christmas.

Labels on the $23 tin on sale at Harvey Nichols say the meat comes from a "farm-raised relative of Rudolph," The Sun newspaper reports.

But animal rights group Viva! has accused the store of cashing in on the holiday and is calling on them to remove the tins, made by London company Edible, from their shelves.

"What kind of sicko would relish cracking open a tin of reindeer pate on Christmas Day? And what kind of store would think it appropriate to sell," Viva! campaigns manager Justin Kerswell said.

According to Edible, the pate is made with selected cuts of reindeer and seasoned with cognac and spices.

The tin’s label describes it as an: "Arctic delicacy and indulgent Christmas treat."
