Motorcycle stuntman hits cable in botched jump

A motorcycle stuntman has vowed to ride again just days after plunging eight metres to the ground during a botched circus performance.

Josh Headford, 20, broke his leg, wrist, elbow and shoulder after his motorcross bike hit a cable during an air jump at the Shrine Cricus in Saginaw, a town in the US state of Michigan, on Sunday.

Video of the incident shows Headford accelerating up a ramp inside the circus tent as he launches himself into the air. He is airborne for about one second when the bike abruptly collides with the cable and Headford is sent crashing to the ground.

The ringmaster is heard shouting: "I need a doctor immediately — this is not part of the performance".

Mr Headford told the Associated Press the cable should have been lowered or removed by staff before the stunt.

"It was like hitting a brick wall. I thought I was done — but I'm not," he said.

Circus owner Brett Carden said people should have checked everything to make sure it was safe for the performance to go ahead.
