A Canadian man has survived an avalanche he inadvertently triggered while snowmobiling in British Columbia.
Tanner Stuart, 27, attached a camera to the front his snowmobile before heading up a snow-covered mountain at Nelson on February 3, UK newspaper the Telegraph reported.
As he reached the top the snow began to break up beneath him and turned into an avalanche.
"It began to shatter, breaking up in big ice blocks, all the way to the ridge line about 150 metres up," Mr Stuart said.
An airbag in his backpack kept Mr Stuart on the surface, even as the snowmobile was buried under more than a metre of snow.
"It basically saved my life," he said.
"Without the backpack I would have had to rely on my friend finding me and digging me out."
On the same day a Finnish tourist was killed by an avalanche while skiing at the nearby town of Kalso.
