An English mother, who became a source of inspiration for cancer victims after a video of her young daughter cutting her hair for chemotherapy went viral, was proposed to by her long-time boyfriend during a live appearance on a breakfast TV show.
Sara Duncan, 44, thought she was appearing on ITV’s Daybreak show yesterday to talk about her emotional YouTube video but got a surprise when her partner and father of her children, Craig Etchells, 40, popped the question.
A nervous Etchells told the program’s hosts, "I planned to do something on the London Eye later this morning, but if I can I'd like to hijack 20 seconds to do something special."
The hosts willingly obliged and Mr Etchells knelt on the floor beside his wife and took her hand in his as he said, "Sara you are the bravest, most beautiful girl I've ever met in my life.
"I spoke to your dad yesterday and asked for his blessing and he said yes.
"Make me the happiest man in the world. Will you marry me? "
Without hesitating Sara replied yes, as host Dan Lobb shed a few tears.
Ms Duncan learned she had breast cancer last September and had a mastectomy on her left breast in October.
When she began losing her hair because of chemotherapy she decided to ask her daughter, Lola, to help her cut her hair off so she could get used to the idea of what her mother would look like after the treatment.
Ms Duncan also filmed the event and planned for it to be a memento for her daughter.
The video, which is linked to the ‘Just Giving’ donation page, went viral after it was posted to YouTube.
The couple have had two children together and four boys from previous relationships.
