An eight-year-old New York boy shot in the shoulder when an armed cyclist fired into a shopfront did not cry and comforted his mother despite his injury.
Bronx boy Armando Bigo was unintentionally shot as he stood in front of a rack of chip packets at a delicatessen and grocery store on Tuesday night, the New York Post reported.
The bullet had been aimed at another person in the store but struck Armando in the shoulder instead.
"I was screaming hysterically, and he said, 'Mami, calm down, why are you crying, Mami?" Armando's mother Ely Flores said.
"I said, ‘Baby, because you got shot."
As shopkeeper Mahmood Abdulrub carried out first aid, Armando apologised for getting blood on the floor of the store.
"The only time he said ‘Ouch’ was when I applied pressure," Mr Abdulrub said.
"Then he said, ‘Thank you, mister'."
The bullet fractured a rib and a bone in Armando's spine, but the injuries are not life-threatening.
The gunman is still at large after pedalling away at speed after the shooting.
