Wives and girlfriends in a small Italian town have banned their men from visiting a local cafe bar because of the female barista's unabashedly saucy outfits.

After eight years running Le Cafe bar in Bagnolo Mella, in northern Italy, Laura Maggi found dressing in highly revealing clothes was a great way to boost business.

She hassince become a national celebrity for her efforts, with hundreds of male customers flocking to Le Cafe to ogle the 34-year-old and photos of her semi-nakedbody plastered all over the walls.

There was so much transport congestion the local mayoreven announced she was considering an emergency bylaw to limit traffic to the area.

Now the local women haved banned their men from visiting the bar.

But speaking to an Italian morning news program, Ms Maggi said she could not see what the problem was.

"It's just a bit of harmless fun … it's not my fault if guys want to come and have a drink in my bar," she said.

Ms Maggi has racked up more than 5000 new friends on Facebook and her raunchy photos have been made into a calendar.

But several localwomen have gone on TV to complain, saying Ms Maggi has disgraced the town.

"This town is quiet and respectable — now we are known across the whole country because of the little amount of clothing this barmaid is wearing to serve drinks," one woman said.

Bagnolo's mayor Cristina Almici said the council had received several complaints about the bar, related to traffic congesting, parking issues and vandalism.

Ms Almici admitted she had banned her own husband from visiting the bar.
