Man films himself coming out to mother

A young US man has secretly filmed the moment he came out as gay to his mother in their kitchen.

Dan Brian, 24, posted the video online after filming their conversation using a camera hidden inside a tissue box on the top of the fridge.

"So I am about to come out to my mum, and I am trying to keep it together," he says before his mother arrives.

"My arms are shaking."

When his mother steps into the kitchen, Mr Brian is seen nervously pacing around and tapping on his phone as she tries to guess what is on his mind.

Eventually, Mr Brian summons up the courage and says quietly "I'm gay — surprise".

His mother pauses for a moment before hugging him.

"You know what, I am so proud of you," she said.

"I've just been waiting for you to say something."

Mr Brian's mother was unaware she was being filmed until after the fact.

Mr Brian is not the first person to come out to his parents in an online video.
