A bus flipped over and plunged into a ravine Friday in southern Peru, killing at least 17 people and injuring 23 others, police said.
The accident took place in the early hours of Friday on a curve on a highway in Quiquijana, between Cuzco and Arequipa, some 1,100km southeast of Lima.
Just this month 65 people have died and more than 65 have been injured in road accidents on mountainous Peru's famously perilous roadways. Last year, 875 people were killed and 5,307 injured on Peruvian roads, police data show.
