An 18-year-old British student has been arrested over the stabbing murder of her boyfriend just hours after celebrating her A-level exam results.

Police arrested Kat McGrath after the body of her boyfriend Alyn Thomas was found dead at the home where McGrath lives with her parents, UK media report.

Paramedics found the 22-year-old victim in a pool of blood at the house in Bridgend, in southern Wales, on Friday morning.

The couple, who had been dating for a year, were celebrating McGrath's results for her A-level exams — the equivalent in Australia of taking Year 12 university entrance exams — before a fight broke out between them, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.

"Alyn loved Kat to bits and it should have been on of the best days of her life," an unnamed friend told UK newspaper The Telegraph.

"We don't know exactly what happened later but Alyn is dead and the police have got Kat for it."

Mr Thomas sent several messages to McGrath's MySpace page earlier this week, including one post saying "I love you" 12 times.

On her profile McGrath lists interests as music, party dressing, reading and playing guitar.

A neighbour told the Telegraph McGrath was a quiet girl who didn't get into trouble.

"She seemd to take her education seriously," the neighbour said.

"The had the emotion of good A-level results in the morning and this terrible thing at the end of the day."

South Wales police said the scene of the murder has been sealed and forensic examinations were ongoing.

Police also confirmed an 18-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
