A fashion writer who pretended to be a firefighter so he could rape his "damsel in distress" victim says the only things stopping him from killing himself in jail are the beauties on Gossip Girl.
New York man Peter Braunstein put on a fireman's uniform on Halloween in 2005, lit a fire in his victim's building and then gained access to her apartment.
The 45-year-old knocked the woman out with chloroform before tying her to a bed in stilettos and raping her over 12 hours.
In a seven-page letter to the New York Post, Braunstein said season three of Gossip Girl was "another incentive or two for staying in the game".
"But still I ask myself: 'Sure, it's probably going to be great, but is Gossip Girl in and of itself reason enough to stay alive?' ... we'll see," he said.
Braunstein also revealed he has a following of female admirers, one of who has "begged" to see him.
"One silver lining involves pen-pal sympathisers, people — well, actually, just women — who followed my case and write to me, telling me that I've been wronged and misunderstood," he said.
He also said police officers "treated him" to fast food when he flew to Ohio to stand trial after robbing and kidnapping a psychiatrist while on-the-run.
"I started thinking 'Hey, this isn't half bad, what with the planes, the franchise-restaurant food, maybe I should start copping to some of the still-unsolved stuff I pulled during the manhunt and rack up some more frequent-flier miles'," he said.
Braunstein is serving 18 years to life for his crimes.
