A dispute between two strangers over a misdialled phone number in America's south escalated to a face-to-face meeting where one of the men shot the other.
Scott Allen Elder, 22, and Brian Matison, 24, began exchanging hostile text messages and phone calls after one of them accidentally misdialled the other's number.
The two resolved to settle the dispute in person at a pharmacy car park in Savannah, Georgia at 2.30am on Tuesday local time.
According to police Elder then shot Matison, leaving him in a serious condition.
"They allowed a text message conversation to escalate to physical violence," police spokeswoman Veda Lamar Nichols said. "It was just one of those senseless things."
Elder, an amateur rapper who performs under the name 'Scotty', was charged with aggravated assault and taken to Chatham County jail.
His vehicle was also damaged during the incident.
