The burglar didn't like his original mugshot.
A fugitive burglar in the UK has taunted police by sending a photograph of himself to a local newspaper — and saying he prefers it to his mugshot.
In the photo Matthew Maynard, 23, mocks his pursuers by posing in front of a police van wearing a policeman-like black jacket and brightly coloured pants.
South Wales Police had originally released a mugshot of Maynard as part of a major crackdown on burglaries in the area.
A spokesman for the South Wales Evening Post said that Maynard had called the newspaper, "saying he was not happy with the picture and that he would send in another."
The image featured on the front page of the newspaper the next day, with the headline "You Cheeky Burglar".
South Wales Police have thanked Maynard for releasing the new photo.
" He thinks he is being clever by showing off like this — but we'll have him in soon now," a police spokesman told the Daily Mail.
"Everyone in Swansea will know what he looks like now. What an idiot!"
Acting Chief Inspector Nigel Whitehouse, who led the operation, said if Maynard "has any sense at all then he should just give himself up to us".
"We hope that now many more people will know what he looks like and give us information which can lead to his arrest."
