Bolivian police have made a breakthrough in a brutal murder case despite being mocked for releasing the "world's worst" suspect sketch.
The much-ridiculed identikit of a suspect in the savage killing of taxi driver Rafael Vargas was reportedly drawn by a female witness who saw the attack.
It featured an egg-shaped face, crudely-drawn features and straw-like hair in a drawing that online bloggers quickly compared to the Wizard of Oz's scarecrow.
Mr Vargas' burnt body was found in March with 11 stab wounds in what police said could be a drug-related murder.
The victim's brother reportedly said a man had made threats at their family home, claiming the taxi driver was having an affair with his wife.
But despite the alleged killer's cartoon being met with widespread mockery along with a video of a Bolivian PAT TV newsreader soberly presenting the sketch police have now made an arrest in the high profile case.
A man, reportedly aged 23 years, was paraded in handcuffs in front of the media.
Local law prohibits his identity being revealed, which prompted several news sites to superimpose the cartoon face over the suspect.
The accused is professing his innocence.
Police have stated that they believe more than one suspect played a part in the murder.
