Britain's Got Talent singer Susan Boyle has broken down in front of American fans and started sucking her thumb just moments after a live television performance.

The star began to cry while having lunch with fans at the Rock Centre cafe in New York City before beginning to intensely suck her thumb, according to the Telegraph.

This is the latest in a series of incidents since Boyle found sudden fame after coming second in the talent show.

She had been previously admitted to a rehabilitation centre after suffering an anxiety attack hours after coming second on Britain's Got Talent.

The 48-year-old reportedly burst into tears and needed to be comforted by an aide before composing herself and performing a little dance for her fans.

Only minutes earlier she had performed on NBC's Today show and looked visibly emotional after being presented with a quilt hand-stitched by fans around the world.

"She was just overjoyed and extremely touched with the reception she has had from everyone in America," a spokesman for the singer said.

Boyle's new album I Dreamed A Dream has become the biggest advance CD seller in UK history and sold 134,000 copies on its first day.
